Stu and Caleb

This is one of my favorite portrait painting to date, it also happens to be a landscape painting. This is my brother Stu who lives in Wake Forest NC. He’s basically a hop, skip, and a jump away from me.

For this landscape painting, the challenge was painting water. Water has always been a challenge for me, it’s not just getting the values correct, but capturing the movement as well. For this oil painting, I did my research, looking at many paintings where water was an element, as well as watching the old faithful Youtube tutorials.

In this portrait painting, if you happen to know my brother, you’ll see the likeness in the profile. What I especially love, is how I was able to capture his likeness, but his character as well. You can see this in the way he his standing on the bank, and even in his clothing.

This portrait painting captures a moment of time between my brother and his grandson Caleb. I gave it to him on Christmas.
