The Hideaway

In North Carolina, there are no excuses for not finding great locations and landscapes to paint. The drive between Louisburg and Wake Forest, where my brother lives, are dozens of beautiful spots where I could stop, park, and start painting. The Hideaway is one such spot full of character.
In this watercolor study, my goal, was to capture the light and shadow. Grey days are nice, but tend to leave the painting looking flat. I’ve also started to get comfortable with painting detail, it’s a little different with watercolors, I’m much more carful to avoid making mistakes, as they tend to be difficult to correct.
